The US Senate Armed Forces Committee reported that the abuse of prisoners was routine, authorized at high levels and not the work of a "few bad apples".

Omar Khadr's reported his experiences at the first opportunity, when he was allowed to see a lawyer after two years of interrogations. His treatment is entirely consistent with what is described in the Committee's report which came later, but it varied.

The Commission officials might have preferred people not making connections to the murder case. No reporter who has covered this case for a long time, and nobody who has followed it, would be "aghast" at anything.

It was reported in the media in 2008 that legal arguments in the case indicated Sgt. Joshua Claus conducted all or some of the interrogations of Omar Khadr, in Bagram in 2002. Sgt Claus did an interview with one of the banned reporters, Michelle Shephard. She also wrote a book on Omar Khadr. http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=37...

In 2005 it was reported that Sgt. Claus and 26 other soldiers were charged in relation to routine prisoner abuse at Bagram in 2002, including torturing two men to death, including one who was considered innocent by some of the interrogators. Of the 59% who oppose the bill, 13% oppose it because it is not liberal enough. That means only 45% of people think the bill is too liberal. Hardly the 'will of the country.'
