That's two commentors now who've questioned Richardson's sexuality. I do not know him in the real world nor do I have any idea whether he is gay or straight. Lemme ask you guys: what damn business is it of yours? He has made several public statements now which are supportive of gays and gay rights, perhaps not to the degree you may like but you must admit far, FAR more than we are used to from Republicans. I see in Richardson's statements the future of the GOP that I'm impatient to have now. Get used to it: not all Republicans are social cons and many who aren't have vehement disagreements with them and their numbers are slowly growing. Isn't this what we want? Or would you rather continue sucking up to one party which treats gays as its bitch, to be used and tossed aside as it seems fit?

I have several comments with regard to this article. I'll begin by saying that politically, I consider myself a libertarian, although I'm extremely far from that -- I'm more socially liberal and fiscally conservative.... I'll also say that I read both this blog and Qweerty regularly.

First, I agree that it's important for both sides to come to the realization that neither side is saturated with ne'er-do-well evil people who lurk in the corners with aspirations of demolishing the other. Gays and conservatives can cohabitate... differences in opinion are just that... opinions -- the issue, however, comes, when one person's opinion infringes upon another person's freedom. I see a homosexual's right to visit a spouse in the hospital as more inherent that I do a conservative's right to live in a world free of homosexual spouses.

Mr. Richardson provides the gay rights movement with advice with regard to success, like... not calling in "gay" to work, and approaching the issues, rather than the rhetoric, or the basis of the issues. I don't necessarily think that I'd be taking directions from the enemy. If I were a slave, I certainly wouldn't have asked my Massa for directions up North.

And finally... Mr. Richardson constantly speaks of the gay community in third person -- at no point in this essay/interview does he refer to the community as an "us" or "we." He makes a concerted effort to extricate himself from what he must invariably view as a train wreck. How odd... that Mr. Richardson would abandon his people....

I was unaware libertarian-minded Republicans didn't exist. Perhaps you should spread that memo around the House of Representatives and Senate, too.
