RNC Royal Rumble
I remember being a kid, watching the now-defunct WWF on TV and loving every minute of posturing, grand-standing, and fake punches and falls.
It’s the same reason I love to watch RNC Chairman races.
There are only 168 people that have a vote: make no mistake, they’re the only ones that matter. Every Right-of-center talking head on TV and on the Net has weighed in on who they think “can save the party.” They’re wrong, all of them. My point is that the RNC Chair is a poor platform from which to launch some kind of Contract With America Part Deux.
The reason why, then Minority Leader, Newt Gingrich was able to successfully lead the charge against a Democratic President and Democratic Congress in 1994 was because he actually gave voters (and the much reviled media) an alternative.
We cannot just be the Anti-Democrat party. The RNC Chairmanship is thus too partisan a post, in that, well, I mean, it’s his job to be partisan. Let the RNC Chairman raise money, blast Democrats and fund our candidates across the country.
The GOP’s most pressing need is not the votes of 168 committee members, but rather the votes of our 175 members of the House and 43 (crosses fingers) members of the Senate.
P.S. I endorse Michael Steele for RNC Chairman. Remember his commercials when he was running for Senate? Awesome:
