Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off!
On Monday, Kelly Tanorexic Ripa and Regis Methuselah Philbin made, what some call, an insensitive and racist joke.
Ripa recalled a story of her child returning home from school one day after learning about government and the two major political parties. The littlest Ripa, she said, remembered correctly that Republicans are associated with elephants, but mistook the animal for which Democrats are known, Donkeys, as Dominicans, to which Regis quipped, “She’s pretty close!” Need I offer any more reason why they’re on at 10 AM?
Acording to TMZ, Dominican-American and Latino leaders are reportedly organizing protests of the coffee-loving duo, however no official statement has been released by any anti-defamation league.
After suffering through nearly two years of a presidential campaign hypersensitive to issues of political correctness, I’ve grown rather callous to the charges of racism and/or sexism, though, in all fairness to Ripa, Philbin, the comments were seemingly made off-the-cuff and harbored no malicious intent, as far as I can tell.
You like potato and I like potahto. You like Democrats and I like Dominican. Potato, potahto, Democrats, Dominican, let’s call the whole thing off.
